Join us for the Sixth Annual Pints and Paddles for A Cause benefiting Team River Runner on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Mission Bay Yacht Club.
We invite ALL paddlers – whether you are never-ever, to just for fun or a seasoned veteran -- to come together for a day on the water and support Team River Runner! The emphasis is on FUN versus speed. Pints and Paddles is a paddle community event, and we encourage everyone to attend!
This fun event features relay races including Khaotic Kayak and SUP Pandemonium competitions, a community paddle with vets, tons of great raffle prizes, BBQ lunch and beer! Even if you don’t own a kayak and SUP board, we have you covered – rentals will be provided through Aqua Adventures Kayaks & Paddleboards if booked in advance.
The San Diego Chapter of Team River Runner (TRR), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, provides active duty service members, veterans and their families an opportunity to find health and healing through kayaking and other paddle sports. We hold several monthly paddles at Aqua Adventures Kayaks & Paddleboards for local Veterans including one for active duty patients at Balboa Medical Center, one for patients at the ASPIRE Center, and one for Veterans and their families served by the La Jolla VA.
Founded in 2004 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, we now offer weekly paddling sessions in more than 60 locations across the nation. Team River Runner (TRR) is more than an adaptive sports program; it is an opportunity for veterans, their family members, and everyone in the community to participate It’s an opportunity to enjoy nature and realize its social, physical, and emotional benefits, whether it’s tackling whitewater rapids or paddling on peaceful flat-water. It’s an environment that facilitates connection, allowing veterans to reunite with their families and forge relationships with those who have endured similar pain. TRR creates purpose and community service. Our veterans are on the river to recovery.
Paddling can be very therapeutic to help heal physical injuries as well as for Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury, but Veterans get the most satisfaction from helping their fellow Veterans. Some of the funds raised will be used for Leadership Training Courses to provide the opportunity for Veterans to become the future leaders of TRR.
